Thanks Pete. I wondered afterward whether we weren't trying to put too many models on the table. It might have been if the Axis had serious artillery..
Now we think that we need to play scenarios. Maximising artillery and mortars can lead to an imbalance. I am very lucky that I play with people who want to play historically rather than playing simply to win.
Next game will likely to be a Late War German vs Soviet.
(I also have to say that one of the most fun wargames I have ever played was a small scale scenario using CWC to play NVA vs US army. No big guns, but concealment and command.)

Ouch, looks like the 8th Army managed a DAK style arty supported PaK front with the Panzers slashing in & out!
