Yeah the doubling was to represent those moments in war where soldiers hold on in the face of the enemy, long afterthey should have broken. In this scenario, the germans know that if they succumb, the line will be lost, and prepare to give all they have to defend their brothers.
It was a close call though, for two turns both forces where 1 unit away from breaking. In retrospect, the british were already broken, if you count the typhoon too. But couldn't remember if planes are added to the tally, so just gamed on
