Hi all, i already asked on TMP but thought i wouldn't
harm to ask here too.
I'm collecting info for my incoming 6mm Winter War project.
First i'm not sure there are any 6mm finns available, i'm
correct?
Second, how common was the helmet during the the Winter
War, and looks like they had various shapes:

Third, knowing that the helmets varied?(is that a word?)
would you rather use Italian or German infantry ?
I suspect most would say German for the cap, but what if
i use some with helmets?

I investigated the idea before....was going to use Adler Afrika Korps, Italians & Germans for infantry. Russian Maxims for the MG's & either Russian or Italian mortars.

I'm using WWII Germans for my Finns, including some Afrika Korps figures, largely for the soft caps. Sure, the figures are molded so as to be in short sleeves, but at 6mm, just paint the sleeves down to the wrist! It's the rare 6mm figure where anyone would be able to tell the difference anyway.

In choosing to do an underdog army like the Finns, you're kind of stuck in having to mix and match, but there's a certain freedom that results from that, too.

Did WWI Germans use shields on their Maxims, much as WWII Soviets did? I believe the Finns removed or never installed the shields on their Maxim guns.

I don't know about the shield part Badger.
I'll probably try to paint the sleeves on those Afrika
Korps minis too, that sounds doable Smile
