I got very fed up with my 15mm minis this summer so I managed to sell them all. The scale, and the material, just wasn´t for me. Also, the appetite for larger battlegroups just didn´t fit my space limits, and starting a quick game just had got harder and harder. I originally diverted from 20mm scale because the stuff from DML and RoG just got better and better... as scale models, that is. Then I found Italeri and HaT quick build kits, and tested playing with just a handful of stuff on both sides - luvvly! No more 3000pt bg:s for me Smile

What size forces are you using on each side for these "smaller" battles.

I am interested in hearing how the rules play using more restricted forces. Does the limited number of HQ's per side (3 perhaps 4?)make the game more random in nature?

Smaller but more frequent battles seems more attractive at the moment than waiting for the "perfect" time to set up a clash of titans!

V-P,
I am sure you will have the time of your life playing smaller 20mm games, we had a cracking game on Tuesday night (15th).
I (German Western Front 44-45) had:
CO
2 HQs
4 squads of infantry
a mortar
Pzkpfw IV
My opponent (American) had:
CO
2 HQs
FAO
8 squads of infantry
a mortar
a MG
2 105mm Howitzers
1 155mm howitzer
1 halftrack transport

I held a small village surrounded by bocage and orchards, he had to attack and take the village. The game lasted about two and a half hours and he won by causing me to break (not that difficult with a breakpoint of 3!). It was fun and exciting, especially when he threw 2 command blunders in one turn! I thoroughly recommend 20mm small games and as you say the models available are gorgeous.

I wouldn´t call 3 or 4 HQ:s as a limited number, anymore... I once had surprisingly fun with just CO and FAO on both sides. Infantry and arty close to 2:1 plus just a troop of HaT (75mm) Shermans vs. a duo of PAK40:s. Arty, of course, is OBA. All this for about 35€:s.
BTW I usually play ´til last man standing. I calculate too much at work daily to get excited about breakpointsGrin

It may seem a lot of HQs, but they are in effect Lieutenants in charge of a platoon (4 squads = 1 platoon) and we have found that the game doesn't flow as well without the command being represented. I suppose I could have dropped an HQ and had a few more points to take an MG stand, which would have been useful.

We couldn't play until last man standing as the club closes at 11pm!Wink
