I an just getting into miniature wargaming. I have collected some GHQ 6mm USMC and Japanese. I have held off on basing.

Can some of the experts give some advice on the best size of bases? I am looking for a uniform approach, probably with some kind of labeling, so I might use them with other rule sets as well as BKC.

1" square from Litko would be easiest, but is that overkill on size?

Playing in platoon scale rule sets is it better to use say two tanks per base?

Thoughts appreciated.

OK let me rephrase since my reference to 'other rules' might offend Big Brother...

How can I base 6mm for BKC in the best way, using labels?

1x1.25 " bases perhaps? I am looking for uniformity.

Thanks...

Actually, the suggestions in the download section work quite well.

You won't offend Pete by mentioning other rules here - he's more big brother than Big Brother Grin

I was reading on TMP to use 30x30mm for Micro scale.

I might use that.

FWIW - with my 6mm [which is all CWC] I've kept the same basing as my 10mm for BKC, with one exception for FAO/FACs:

CO: 50x50
HQ: 40x40
FAO/FAC/Snipers: 25x20
Infantry / recce / transports: 50x25
Armour: 50x30
ATG / AA: 40x40
Artillery: 50x40

I've not doubled up anything - apart from where I've used vehicles for Recce units

Hi

All my AFVs and infantry (for both BKC and CWC forces) are on 30mm squares (originally based for Spearhead/Modern Spearhead). All my command stands are on variously sized round washers (20mm for FAOs and FACs), 30mm for HQs, 40mm for BG CO).

Cheers

Thanks that's very helpful.

Are ranges halved in the rules for BKC when using 6mm?

I'm thinking of getting a 6x4' hex map with 1.5"-2" hexes and using it for a Tarawa scenario. Trying to figure out scale, if that's possible on 4x6 using 6mm. Would be interesting to have the whole island on the map.

Hi

We just use the ranges as printed! For small points value games we have played on a 4ft square, otherwise we play on a 6ft x 4ft table.

Cheers

I don't change ranges for 6mm either - works fine for me.

I just asked this question in the CWC Miniatures thread...but has anyone ever used the GW Warmaster bases?
They are 20mm by 40mm.

Yes; based my 6mm CWC tanks lengthways on 20x40mm.
