To get an opponent for the german Maus I bought this:





"The T28 was a superheavy tank design by the United States which started the development in 1945 for the final push in Europe attacking the heavy tanks and fortifications.
A 105mm cannon was built into a fixed superstructure on a T23 base. The armor plates were up 300m thick which gave the tank a weight of 86.2 tons. To carry this weight on soft ground, two additional tracks were installed doubling the track width. Theses outer track compartments were detachable and could be put behind the tank for transport. The engine delivered only 500hp which gave that tank a maximum speed of 13 km/h.
Only two prototypes were built and tested throughout 1947 at Aberdeen Proving Grounds as well as at the Fort Knox facilities. In October 1947 the T28 program was cancelled and it never went into series production"

The scale of one of the models is not correct. The T-28 is a monster. The surviving T-28 was at the Patton Museum at Ft. Knox. I was helping the museum tech support guys back in the early 80s when they cranked it up and moved it to keep the suspension lubricated. The ground shook like an earthquake when it moved.

The reason the outer tracks were removable was so it would fit on a railroad flat car or into a custom built Liberty ship with a roll off ramp like an LST. The project was cancelled before the ship was built. Without the outer track, it sank in almost any unpaved surface.

Most technologically and industrially advanced nation builds superheavy tank: Nah, not worth it, more of the ones that work please!

Somewhat bespoke, hand crafted, technologically shallow and industrially behind nation: More of them! More! Stop building the ones we can maintain, and build monsters we can't use!

Nice model though - whose it by? And is it a scale down on the Duck?

It is more a very heavy armoured SPAT-gun (300mm front!!!)

Mind, that Churchill looks a bit big - shouldn't it be about two thirds the length of a Maus/T-28?

but that aint a DuKW, it be a SEEP.

The T-28 is 36' 6" long and just under 15' wide. The Churchill AVRE is 24 ft 8in long and 10 ft 8 in wide, about 2/3ds the size of the T-28. The SEEP is 15' 2 in long and 5 ft 4 in wide. The T-28 is also longer and wider than the Maus.

But our Maus is the highest vehicle!(3,80m)

I think length of the vehicle means "length over all" (including the gunbarrel).

T-28 would be the longest (11,10 m) Maus (10,09 m) Churchill (7,45 m).

But T-28 has the gun near the front so that nearly 30% of the length would be gun.

I'm not sure... it always looks very meaty but I can't find any direct comparison photo's and nowhere actually wants to list the length with/without gun clearly marked (that a quick 90secs of research tells me )!

Looking at the body length of all three there the Churchill body is as long as the Maus-ish, and both are considerably longer than the T-28...

And the T-28 even without a turret should be taller than the Churchill!
