Posted on 10 February 2014 at 08:59:10 GMT I've been struggling to see my H&R infantry lately so thought I'd base up some of the Adler figures and see if they were more visible (there's nothing wrong with my eye sight btw), I also came up with a more scenic basing scheme. What do people think? http://www.flickr.com/photos/93889950@N08/... http://www.flickr.com/photos/93889950@N08/... Base size is 80x30mm. |

Posted on 10 February 2014 at 11:26:05 GMT Thanks. I wondering whether to re-base my tanks in a similar way, perhaps in pairs (more if small tanks like T-40's)? Okay it uses more tanks but it does make the base look more like a platoon. |

Posted on 10 February 2014 at 12:44:42 GMT I keep getting tempted by multi model basing, doubly so when tempted by 3mm as well. The idea of a "platoon base" actually having several vehicles is very nice... |

Posted on 10 February 2014 at 13:25:27 GMT I think it would stop you thinking of the base as a single tank and it does allow for a more "scenic" base |

Posted on 10 February 2014 at 15:44:38 GMT I based all my 6mm North Africa in platoons / troops of 3 or 4.... I does look better I think. But then I sold it all. |

Posted on 10 February 2014 at 21:32:25 GMT I use two vehicles on a 50 x 50 base for my North Africa British and Italian units where the vehicle is a combat vehicle. For most transport units I use 1 vehicle per 25 x 25 base except for those that are small vehicles such as motorcycles or bren gun carriers when I use 3 or 2 models per 50 x 50 base. I think they really give the feel that they are platoons of vehicles rather than individuals and work well in the open desert. Not sure the larger bases would work quite so well in more dense terrain but I'm planning on giving it a go when I get back to modelling more NWE Americans. |

Posted on 10 February 2014 at 22:11:57 GMT I'm in two minds about multi based vehicles, mainly because of the size of the base compared to what I'm used to (30mm sq) and the effect that terrain will have on a larger base. Thinking about it a larger base would match the ground scale better, and the terrain issue can be dealt with by planning it to suit the basing. Terrain and the effect it has on a units cohesion is a real issue for real formations so perhaps I'm worrying too much. I'll do a test base later in the week and upload some pictures when I get back from working away. |
