Hi,

I've some of both to base up and was wondering if people usually based these transport stands separately to the infantry they carry?

I'm tempted to have separate stands if transporting infantry/infantry support but have them included on the base of recce infantry. I'm not 100% sure what troops equiped with them do with them when they dismount, if they tend to keep them close to hand then modelling them on the same base as the infantry/infantry support might be more realistic?

Thanks

Cheers

Tend to put them on the same base in 6mm.

In 10mm I have separate stands for mounted/dismounted troops. I am planning some bicycle mounted recce for my AVBCW armies, those I would mix on the same stand.

Im using 6mm and i have my motorcycles on seperate bases and switch between them and the appropriate infantry stand, i think it makes sense to have them as seperate bases as its easier to tell their current status ie mounted/dismounted

I'm not one for keeping transports (particulalrly softskins) close at hand when dismounted they are just too vulnerable. I know in game terms losing them is not too much of an issue as they don't count towards the breakpoint if lost but my reading is that softskins rarely if ever were intentionally on the front line and there are many accounts of Recce troops dismounting from Armoured Cars and Scout Cars leaving them in a safe spot then going forward to do their job.

I keep them separate, which is handy because of how recce troops changed in BKC2. Now my motorcycles are just a transport option, just like the armoured cars, etc. If the recce troops are on the motorcycles, I give them the stats of the motorcycles. Dismounted, I use their own stats.

According to September Storm (about Poland 1939), ' the one or two riflemen aboard each motorcycle would dismount to manouevre against the enemy while the drivers withdrew to the first available cover to the rear and would then provide supporting fire'.

I found this earlier which supports the dismount and leave behind like other softskins view:
