Hi Guys

So far I've been using some 15mm infantry miniatures to test the rules but I'd like to end up with two 6mm armies. At the moment I'm looking at H&R and going with North Africa 1941.

Does anyone know where I could get info on the best painting schemes. I'm hoping to use as little different colours as poss and probably going with the 8th Army and DAK. Was everything just khaki?

Also, H&r seem to have bought skytrex 6mm range. I wonder would I be better waiting to see what is in this range before making a large purchase?

The Skytrex models are bigger than h&r, so not really compatible but they had no infantry so h&r will go there. Unless the moulds changed since I bought mine back in 80s, there is a lot of tidying to do. There are some very good models though, but I wanted all to look right so concentrated on the h&r and am very happy with that range so you can't go wrong buying them. H&R now do a picture of most of their WW2 models (not the full German range yet though) in the gallery of their website, so have a look there.

For 6mm Commonwealth infantry in N Africa, I use Vallejo Iraqi Sand as the uniform colour, then a light wash of Army Painter light stain (a sort of sepia) ink (not the dip). I use a grey stone for webbing.

The Flames of War (boo - hiss) web site has some great references to suitable Vallejo colours, which work well IMHO. Might be worth searching the links on this site, as the topic has come up a couple of times recently.

H&R figures are definitely superior to Skytrex, again IMHO.

Cheers

Cheers Guys. I'm loving how manageable this scale is. Nice and cheap and easy to paint(to my level) the rules are manageable too

That's why we love it - a battalion of infantry for a fiver, a battalion of tanks for not much more - even the modern MBTs don't work out at much more than a few quid for a tank battalion. I've got forces for WW2 Brits and Germans (early war, desert and late war), modern Gulf War Brits and Iraqis, 1980's USMC and Soviets/Warpact - I'd need a second mortgage to do that in 15mm or 20mm. And, what's more you can buy and paint em and get them on the table inside a week or so.
