I want to remove all of the acrylic paint from a few GHQ models that I'm not content with.
Can anyone recommend what to use as so far I'm not getting back to a clean metal model?

I usually just soak the models in turpentine or some other form of paint stripper for a day or two, then clean with an old tooth brush. You could also use oven cleaner if you are pressed for time.

In the US, we have a cleaner called Simple Green that takes care of acrylic pretty well on pewter and plastic (but I've seen a little lead rot on the lead minis). I put the figures in a ziplock bag with the Simple Green overnight then use a soft brush & dental picks to remove the softened paint.

Some other mini forums say the the brown dettol and Fairy Power Spray are close to the same results.

Nail polish remover is a cheap way of stripping pains from any metal, just soak your figures for about 24 hours and scrub with a toothbrush.

The own downside being that your figures will smell like a tart’s hankie for a few days.

2nd for dettol, 1/3 mix with water

...and the award for best stripper goes to ... Dettol! Worked beautifully. Nail polish remover also worked but not anywhere nearly as well, but that may be just the brand I used!
Anyway, time to try out the new paint scheme.

Just started using Dettol myself, pretty impressive stuff!

I went for paint stripper and toothbrushes! Very messy and some burning of hands.I averted bad burning by quick washing with water. It has taken a while but have nearly 70 done. i like to move quickly and get on with painting. The models were fresh from B&B at Abingdon and were bright orange!!! Not my style- acrylic and thick. I may want to do rest-excessive number of Merkavas- a bit slowly and with fewer orange burning bits hitting my skin. I may try a variation of dettol. I used to find toothpaste would take off paint on my fingers when I finally went to bed in the old days!

I use nailremover and that works great. Just put let the minis stay in there for +/- 6 hr and all paint is removed. Nailremover without acceton will strip the paint of plastic miniatures whitout damaging them. But always try before covering entire boxes of them with it.
