After a spell in wargame doldrums I revived my interest by packing away my 12mm armies and digging out my long lost 20mm forces. After many years in the loft they were in sore need of refurbishment...and re-basing for BKC.

But, this time I took the minimalist approach, no more tweezers and static grass or tiny stones from the cat litter tray. No more bushes or bits of shell blasted wall, I just painted the bases with a matt colour. Grey for German, khaki for British and so on, and you know what? I like it! It's like trading your victorian furnature for a new Scandenavian set. I shall never, never go back to scenic bases till the day I change my mind.

I don't do much fancy work for my bases.

I just paint them a basic earth brown, paint an uneven coating of PVA glue, and dip them in a blend of flock. The blend is a mix of course and fine flock of different colours. The uneven coating means that in some spots the brown is exposed.

Works nicely.

I hate all that flock/grass that covers everywhere after a game. I've tried all of the recomended glues, sprays, varnishes etc. and it still comes off. It's a simple paint job for me.
