Luckily for me I bought lots of 10mm stuff years ago and am still getting at all painted up.
Idly leafing through the web yesterday it came as a bit of a shock to see the prices of Minifigs.

My collections are almost entirely Pendraken (Late War) and Minifigs (Early War) and though Pendrakens prices are still pretty reasonable I would now balk at buying Minifigs if I was about to start out.

I've always thought 10mm should be at least half price if not even cheaper than 15mm - with the new plastic PSC vehicles working out at £3-4 each in a multipack you are now paying almost the same.

As I say luckily even though I will expand my 10mm armies I doubt that I will spend much with Minifigs.
Any thoughts?

My thought is we should all petition the Plastic Soldier Co to expand into 10mm

I agree with both of you. I want a few bits from minifigs for a couple of CWC armies but at over £3 a model for a couple of small vehicles I will do without.

PSC stuff is all well and good but I can't see them producing the varied catalogues that the metal/resin companies have. A premium as it were has to be paid to get the less common stuff and my fear is that if everybody starts buying their Shermans, Pz IV's etc from PSC this could actually drive prices up for the less common stuff as they're not getting the revenue from the big sellers anymore. As someone who was reluctant to try PSC as I was not keen on going back to kit building (although it turned out to be not too bad) I would have to say building a plastic kit 2/3rds the size of these would be just too much. Simplified versions for 10mm could indeed be an option but that would mean a manufacturer other than PSC IMHO.

Price hikes were inevitable when Caliver bought MF out.

In multiple dealings with caliver I have had nothing but hassle and when I have had the gall to complain its been made out to be my faultEvil

Minifigs was and probably still is a pretty poor range IMO. I wouldn't have bought from them prior to going to Caliver and even less so once they arrived at that particular doorstepLifeless

Same thing happened to me. But at least this time they replied. Pre-Caliver I didn't even get an answer.

"6mm.........."
"Heretic! Burn the Heretic!"

What do you mean? 6mm is God's own scale. It's the rest of you that are unrepentant heathens.Wink

That bing said, even 6mm is going up in price. Though prices are still in the realm of reason.

Never had any problems dealing with Caliver myself but only ever mail ordered books on a few occasions as I buy most of my stuff at shows.

Have to say I do regret selling off my WWII 1:300 collection about 25 years ago Sad

On the flip side if I was starting from scratch today 10/12mm would be top of the list Wink

Mixed feelings about 10mil nowadays, one the one hand cheap-and-cheerful Pendraken, on the other, the wonderful-but-have-to-take-out-a-2nd-mortgage, Wargames South Confused

Would be Pendraken for me. Good models maybe not the most detailed (but have you seen the new Napoleonics), comprehensive range, reasonably priced and most of all Leon, Dave et al are thoroughly nice people to deal with nothing is too much trouble for them. I'm too heavily committed to 15mm now so don't buy much of their models but do get as many accessories etc from them that I can.

10mm...and Pendraken - but you knew I was going to say that right?

I've got MF for my CWC stuff - but it's stoopid-priced now; probably a reason why I don't have many new CWC battlegroups on the go [other than the 10mm Pendraken Indo-China & 3mm O8 stuff!]

I had dalliances with 6mm - for both ultra-modern CWC [USMC & Chinese], 70s SADF / Angola and EW Eastern Front: but, despite them being lovely models etc, have since sold them: they just don't have the look that I love - which I get with 10mm.

Oh - and 2mm and 28mm for certain things, natch

I don't even look at Wargames South. Bonkers prices.
I have a fair amount of 15mm as well as 10mm and I just can't face paying 15mm prices for 10mm kit.

GHQ 6mm seem quite reasonable compared to 10mm Minifigs these days and thats saying something.

They certainly do, Geoff - I replaced my 10mm MiniFigs Cold War collection with GHQ for one third of the price Gimme Bendy barrels and rice-grain infantry, but the rest is great Approve

I took another look at minifigs today and their tanks are £4.50, thats virtually 20mm prices if you buy kits or resin.

The weird giant lumps of lead on the back of turrets annoy me, I snapped a craft knife blade trying to get on off!

You are not wrong there!
The only problem with moving to 6mm (I have some GHQ modern stuff) is that its yet another scale and have to make suitable scenery for it.
As a general note I'm glad that I bought so much kit a good while ago as so many things seem to be so expensive these days. Timecast are another that now seem a bit steep as opposed to when I bought from them many years ago.

The recent influx of PSC and Forged In Battle really make 15mm a lot more attractive now (I still prefer 10mm or smaller for BKC/CWC scale games though).

For me Pendraken are the saving grace in 10mm - although Minifigs infantry are still fairly reasonably priced for me.
Whats happened with Pithead these days incidentally (and Tiger Terrain) if anyone knows?

That was the killer for me I really like 10mm but could not face replacing the vast majority of my scenery so I'm staying with 15mm thoughout (unless it's for a copletely different era/theatre which has no scenic crossover)

I keep thinking about doing a single CWC period in 6mm but its the need to buy extra scenery that puts me off.

Pithead are still going strong, I love their kit and Phill's service is excellent. I think they have they end on Pendraken in detail but they are slightly more expensive but not WGS or MF prices.
