Hello again, another vehicular question.

Looking at the Micromark list G41 (Divisional support for 7th Panzer div) it says 'Air Liaison Team in Sdkfz 263'... so assuming I'm right in thinking this would be my FAC, I have two queries:

1. Does that refer to the 6- or 8-wheeled vehicle?

2. Is there a miniature of the appropriately wheeled vehicle in 10mm? I've looked at Pendraken and Pithead without luck for a 263 of either variety.

Thanks,

Fletch

Well that clears that up, now to find a miniature! I can't seem to have any luck in finding one in 10mm, is it quite obscure in not in high demand?

Could you advise me of a suitable replacement or proxy?

Looking at my Chamberlain and Doyle it clearly lists a Sdkfz 263 6 Rad. (P196) albeit developed from the sdKfz 231.

From the Specific features:-

"The sdKfz 263 had a fixed turret with a Single MG13, a long range radio set and a large frame antenna together with a telescopic mast antenna. The engine ranged from 3.6lit to 4.5Lit and developed between 600PS and 70PS at 2,000 RPM"

Combat Service:-

"The sdKfz 263 was issued to the motorized Nachrichten (signals) units. Taking part in the marches into Austria and Czechoslovakia and the campaigns in Poland and France, the six wheeled panzerspahwagen were withdrawn from front-line service in 1940 because of their very limited mobility of road"

From the same volume the sdKfz 8 Rad is also shown (p201).

From the Specific features:-

"In place of the turret on the sdKfz 231/232(8 Rad), the sdKfz 263(8 Rad) had the superstructure sides extended higher to form a crew compartment. The only armament was an MG34 mounted in the superstructure front. A large frame antenna and a telescoping mast antenna were provided for the long range radio set"

Combat Service:-

The sdKfz was issued to the Nachrichten detachments of motorized and panzer divisions, as well as Korps and Army headquarters. It was not meant to be a fighting vehicle but was employed as a mobile base for a highly effective communications network"

240 sdKfz 263(8 Rad)Produced from 1938-1943 compared to 28 sdKfz 263(6 Rad) produced from 1932-37.

Both could be viable choices, depending on the Year you are palying
