Hi guys,

I bought a lot of Can.Do Panthers and Tigers on eBay and now I want to give them a unique touch by giving each one a different turret number. Any ideas how to strip the decals without damaging the coat of paint?

Kind regards,
Patrik

If they are computer controlled spray finish, like the Dragon ready builds, they are painted markings not decals. I managed to change one number on a Dragon SdKfz 251C/7 by gently (and I mean really gently) scraping the one number off and replacing it with a suitable numeral from some spare Dragon decals. Not impossible but a lot of work. Hope this helps.

I did basically the same thing with my WTM Panthers (http://kiwidave.pbworks.com/BKC-German-Armour) I tried soaking them in water for a while, but it seemed to make no difference, so as Tostiq says, very carefully scrapped with a good knife.

Inking, weathering and a coat of matt varnish helps hide any blemishes. Also, I read somewhere (here maybe?) that turret numbers etc were painted over in the field, so having old ones partly visible wouldn't be too terrible Smile

I have used ethanol to remove markings from a CDC F-100 did need to be careful as it did remove the paint if left too long or rubbed to much.

Hi Patrik
Model railway people use a product called Microsol to soften decals for good conformity- and decal removal. Got a sneaking feeling the guys are right about these being painted on , though.

Yep, it seems that the numbers of the Can.Do tanks are painted on. Well, I remember some pictures of tanks where there had been arectangular field left in the camo pattern where the numbers were painted in. Please correct me if I am wrong.
As I have a lot of Takara tanks, too, I may use Microsol to strip off the decals...they seem to have decals.

Thanks for your hints and help, guys!
