Due to an E-bay purchase a while back I find myself in possession of a number of 6mm Kettenkrad (the German half-track motorcycle things)

They are nice little models but I can't actually figure out what I should do with them. So can anyone suggest a use for them on the gaming table?

If it matters my Germans will be campaigning in North Africa/Tunisia or NW Europe.

Create a track on one side of the gaming table and race them while waiting for your opponent to finish moving their figures! Wink

Officialy most HQ's in Panzer & Panzer Grenadier Divisions had a number of these, so put them on CO, HQ & FAO stands. Also the Recce Platoon of a Panzer Gren Regiment should be equipped with them too so that gives you a Recce stand as well. In reality it seems motorcylce & sidecar were used mostly though. I know that the Ramcke Brigade used them in Tunisia, not sure in what role though.

Transport for a Panzer-Aufklarungs Kompanie?

No details on which divisions employed this organisation though.

NTM - neither does anyone else. They were also used by Falschimjager divs as tractors.

A quick Google shows Puppchen as the only wargames-useful tow for a K'krad. Trouble is I don't think Puppchen are in the lists. Differentiating them from Panzerschreck might make them too useful - they should have a bit more range and accuracy but require an unlimber move...

Somre good ideas there- thanks folks. I'll use some as transport for the Heavy Weapons of my paratroops and some as cosmetic additions to Recce and Command stands.

You could throw one onto a post D-Day US infantry stand a la the rabbit in Saving Private Ryan...if you get desperate for a use that is.

IIRC in the desert it was so hot you could boil an egg on the hood of vehicles. Perhaps use them for a tiny diorama as part of your HQ/CO?
Info I think if from the Desert episode of the World At War DVD series.
LOL!
