Posted on 22 February 2010 at 12:43:54 GMT I posted this on TMP, but would be interested in the opinions of you mob as well. There is a certain Manufacturer who makes their 15mm WWII models to scale. They are very nice. But I hit problems with some of their early-war vehicles – last night I was drybrushing a 2.0cm armed armoured car, and my flicking brush touched the gun, snapping it like spagettini. Sighing, I put it aside to fix later, and reached for the other – and my questing thumb touched the barrel of the gun….. Large Sigh. I have drilled them out and replaced the gun with metal wire, but the original had a Muzzle-Brake, so it’s only a sort of solution. There is another Manufacturer who do not make their models to scale, and I find their robust solidity a pleasure. The catch is that the 20mm barrel on the same AC is about as thick as a human leg from the same company. My games are played in a different county, and I get there by packing my figures into toothed foam carry-cases and cycling and Training it, with the carry case on my back. I am also terminally clumsy. Manufactur A’s Early War British and French Tanks are doomed. Wherever Possible I will be getting these figures from Manufacturer B (or even Manufacturer C, whose barrels are thin but who use a sturdier metal). What’s your view? My head says a vehicle that will break if you touch it is a failure as a model, yet my heart says realism should be our Grail. What do the esteemed Panel feel? Pat |
