have finally decided on 12mm!
any thoughts on what size bases to use for each type of unit?

I use a variation of the recommendations from the BKC I and CWC.

My infantry and direct infantry support is on 40x30 - 4 grunts or 1 MG or Mortar. My recon are on 30x40 (that is, facing short edge) so the distinction is clear.

AFV 30x50, transport 25x50, guns 40x40.

HQs on 40mm hexes. CO 50x50.

FAO/FAC 40mm round.

I do infantry and most vehicles on 50x30mm,
small vehicles on 40x20mm
Guns & HQs on 40x40
COs on 50x50

Mine:

CO: 50 x 50
HQ / FAO / FAC / ATG: 40 x 40
Recce / Infantry / Transport: 50 x 25
AFV: 50 x 30
Artillery: 50 x 40

I also use the ones from the book, except 50x25 instead of 50x30 but that was because I bought the wrong ones and stuck with it.
