Posted on 08 January 2010 at 19:59:26 GMT 10mm and 12mm are practically the same. If you are thinking about early war Poles, then Pithead have a nice range (at near 12mm) - http://www.pithead-miniatures.tk/ They also have a nice late war British range if you are thinking of late war Poles. Personally I choose 10/12mm as I think it is a good compromise between infantry you can see, and tanks that aren't too big. |

Posted on 08 January 2010 at 20:27:29 GMT Peter Pig! At the platoon level I have a brigade of Paras and of Tommies - plus a Polish Para battalion. I base 3 figures/a mortar or MG on a 40X30 mm base, 2 for a FAO, 3 for a HQ and 4 for the CO on a 40X40 mm base. Vehicles and guns 40 mm front edge, depth as required. I recommend for your off board artillery that you use 12/10 mm models. Don't forget that you can also do the Polish corps in Italy - Monte Cassino! Steve |

Posted on 08 January 2010 at 21:12:06 GMT Right - fetch the stake & my matches - let's burn him I'll always go 10/12mm if I can - mainly because I love painting them - but sometimes I head off into heresy-land and do 6mm: cost, sometimes availability etc has an impact. I've *never* liked 15s - for me that's the scale that can't make its mind up: too big for grand scale & too little if you're a painter who wants to create true beauty in painting [for which I'll look to 28mm+]; oh, and they're not cheap either. 2/3mm is great too [he says, hiding the aforementioned stake & matches ] |

Posted on 08 January 2010 at 21:36:26 GMT Did that help any? Pete has a good photo in the gallery on this site that shows T34s and Infantry in all the scales all next to each other. |

Posted on 09 January 2010 at 00:27:18 GMT I was converted to 10mm because it gave me big battles on a 12' long table whilst having enough detail to be noticed on the table. |

Posted on 09 January 2010 at 00:53:06 GMT My favorite scale is 10mm. At 10mm the size and price are reminiscent of 6mm, but for my old eyes I can do far more detailed painting than I can do at 1:300. I consider 10mm to be 1:150+/- 10 so anything from N-scale at 1:160 (at least in the states) to 1:144 will wok together with a few caveats. |

Posted on 09 January 2010 at 00:53:57 GMT If I was thinking as big as 15mm, I would probably go to 20mm/1:72-76 and go plastic at that. |

Posted on 09 January 2010 at 03:02:56 GMT For me it's 6mm because GHQ are just fantastic vehicles. BUT if I was just starting on WW2 (rather than doing moderns, and then moving onto WW2), I'd probably go with Minifigs as the infantry is better than 6mm, and you'll need more of that than vehicles. That said, another view, based on starting from scratch, would be to go with 15mm, that way I could play BKC (Brigade), PBI/IABSM/FOW (Company), Force on Force (Platoon) and even Nuts! (Squad+) with the same terrain, vehicles and with some thinking about the basing, the same troops. |

Posted on 09 January 2010 at 09:20:18 GMT I agree with Nik 100% on 15mm. My first forays into Historical wargaming were dont using Warhammer Ancients and 15mm figures, and I could never feel truly inspired to paint them. 10 and 6mm are where its at. For WW2 I would say 10mm without a doubt. Moderns has to be to 6mm due to the huge range, |

Posted on 09 January 2010 at 10:10:07 GMT Have always been a 15mm guy (Thirty Years War, Seven Years War and ACW), started in WWII but came to the conclusion that WWII in 15mm on a table looks like a snickersnee (hope it's the right word) in a phone box. I gave 6mm a try but it's to fiddly. So, 10mm would be the right way for me...just my tuppence worth |

Posted on 10 January 2010 at 03:36:35 GMT I started out in 20mm WWII using Rapid Fire. The scale didn't work for me. Also microarmour was too small for me. I could have gone 15mm, but decided on 10mm/12mm. I like the scale for painting and playing the size of battles I wanted to do. I recommend 10mm/12mm, but that scale may not be popular in your gaming circle. My gaming circle is mainly 15mm, but that is okay since I paint up both sides using Minifigs (12mm). |

Posted on 10 January 2010 at 09:14:07 GMT at fred12df: Nice minis, too. Had a look at the Pendraken/Pithead comparision picture. Obviously you can mix them on the same base, can't you? |
