This is a rather iconic bit of kit - it looks so very 'WWII german'

I assume there was a point they stopped bothering tom carry it - it's pretty bulky after all. Or did it continue as standar equipment to the end ?

As far as I know Bundeswehr medics (we regularly had BW guys at our local firing range) were still using it to carry their kit in in the 1980s. So I guess it's possibly still in service today!

I think they just stopped puting a mask in it and kept other stuff in there, probably unoffically.
