Hi folks, Does high. Area terrain (woods , orchards ) offer cover against indirect fire. (1) . 3 onboard artillery units Firing direct. At infantry on edge of forest would hit on 5or 6. (2). same 3 artillery units Firing Indirect (deployed behind a hill ) against infantry on forest edge , Would need ??? I know low area terrain offers no cover against indirect fire. ConfusedHuh?. What am I missing cheers. Smile. Phil.

Indirect artillery fire hits infantry on 4, 5 or 6 in the open, 5 or 6 in cover like woods, and 6 if dug in, fortifications, etc. Arty always hits armour on a 6 (unless open topped IIRC).

For artillery to fire direct, they'd need to be able to spot, so either very close (don't have rules in front of me so can't remember how close), or the target would have had to have fired or move along the edge of the woods in sight of the opposition to be a legitimate target.

At least that's how we play it.

The chart on page 27 neglects to include the descriptors of the chart on page 20 but you should just use those descriptors of soft and hard cover (i.e. soft cover for indirect fire includes woods as noted on page 20, so you hit on a 5,6).
