Pete

Transportation for Engineer units does not seem to be covered in the army lists.

Should engineers be counted as Infantry Support units in the list notes on what Transport units can carry?

Or ... as Infantry ..?
Or ... They just can't be transported?

I'd guess sensible to count as Infantry Support .....but a ruling always helpful!

Thanks
AJ

If its a foot engineer unit then treat as infantry / or inf support as in transport rules.

If its a demolition vehicle unit or other specialist unit without its own stats then Pete needs to have a look.

The Germans get the SdKfz 251/7 in their list - specifically for engineer units

Just treat them as infantry if they're infantry on foot, surely - Doesn't need to be explicit, if they're foot troops? Of course if you're trying to transport a vehicle then you're onto a different ball game...

I'd usually assign something historic for BKC but trucks are always a good stand by for anyone, if you don't want anything more exciting!

For a bizarre moment there I thought the heading read " Trainspotting Engineers" and wondered "huh?"

@ KiwiDave ..
Quite right ...but only in some German lists ...not others.
In some a German lists, no transport for engineers on foot available under RAW.
....and in most other Armies ...nothing at all...whatever the theatre.
....and that's why I'm checking.

@ TP...
Yes....I'm thinking of foot troops ..and historic transport is good for historic games...
But for non-historic...using the RAW ....these restrict which units can go in what Transport.

For example :
Trucks - dont carry Reece units ..and sometimes not infantry either e.g USA Far East etc
Jeeps : Can't carry infantry units - unless British Far East & British Paras (not US Paras though?).

Hence :
Engineers on foot - Do you think they should be ruled for transport as ....?
(A) No transport unless specifically listed (as per the specific German lists Dave refers to)
(B) Transport as Infantry
(C) Transport as Infantry Support
(D) Something else

B. No need to overcomplicate things!

Ah - wait - I think it's actually covered & is a non-issue again. The units in question are termed 'Recce (infantry)' so presumably do the sensible thing as implied and can be carried in anything that can carry infantry. The restriction comes on the transport side, if at all. Transports that specifically say 'Carry recce' are ones restricted to recce units (in historical toes) as with those specialist half tracks use by German engineer units...

Guess (B) sounds good then.

Thanks TP.....this is for those foot Engineers marked as ENG in the lists ( not REC or INF ).

They're marked as ENG in the arm of service, but as Engineers (Infantry) in the title, so simplest explanation is as above Grin
