Hello fellow BKC2 groupies

Quick question on the Break-out scenario.

Is the Defender able the purchase field defences?

No mention in the description of the scenario....which usually means, no.
But here, both sides can use scheduled fire.

So, maybe an omission (these things can happen!)?

Pete- what do you think?

Cheers

If you read the text right above Scenario 1, it states that scenarios with defender-attacker are subject to the field defenses rules, and that fixed defenses are long term defenses built up over weeks.

This makes me think that :
A: you can use defenses as the breakout scenario mentions defender and attacker

B: the type of defenses (hasty or fixed) depends on the time the attacker has been encircled. If the breakout takes place right after the encirclement (say the day after) you can have hasty defenses, if it takes place in the next month or 2 (or longer like leningrad siege) then use fixed defenses.

Pete

Can you say how this was meant to play...
How did it work in play testing please?

One of the other things discussed for this scenario...

Playing length ways along the table, instead of across the table.

This would allow for a narrower defence and in more depth. Giving the surrounded defender a better chance to cover an area otherwise rather wide.

The game would be lengthened by 4 turns

Thoughts?

Great looking table AJCool.

As for field defences I would echo Peters comments above as they make sense to me. Personally I would limit them to infantry dug-in for the 'day after' break out as that is probably all they would have had time to do.

I think we played this down the table as well (ditto the Encirclement scenario) for the reasons you state AJ.
