A couple of questions came up during a discussion about air attacks and AA fire.
According to the FAQ, AA fire cannot be used if the aircraft is on the other side of a hill crest to the AA/HQ unit.
However, can the AA/HQ fire at the aircraft if the aircraft attack template laps over the crest of the hill? We think not because the AA rules say you need to be able to see the hit point.
What about if the AA/HQ unit is within the aircraft attack template even though the hit point is on the other side of the crest (or in a wood)? We think AA fire was permitted even if the aircraft chose to concentrate as AA fire is determined before the decision to concentrate is made and it strikes us as odd if you can be attacked by aircraft but cannot fire back even though you have AA capability.
If the AA/HQ unit was in woods or BUA, can it fire at aircraft if it is being attacked by those aircraft? We think not but then wouldn't let the aircraft chose to concentrate its attacks on a unit in woods or BUA.
We also don't let aircraft concentrate attacks on units in smoke for the same sort of reasoning but the BUA one is a bit different.
How would you play it?
Huh?Smile

I think we've actually quietly ignored the LoS restrictions tbh. I'd certainly let AA fire if they were in the template though, regardless.

Seems most logical to me too, as the aircraft has to show itself in order to attack you.

You could always make it random:

roll a die
1-3, the aircraft lines up it's attack and can be fired on as normal
4-6, the aircraft passes the hill and catches the AA by surprise, not leaving them enough time to adjust for effective counter fire (you could also halve AA ability instead of completely denying it)
