This has been bothering me for a while now, if you have a force of (for example) 2005 points, you could have a maximum of (typically) 18 infantry, according to the book you must have AT LEAST 2000 points to get 2 battalions, so what if your random roll takes you BELOW 2000 points and you don't have enough heavy kit to make up the points balance (or over 2000 points for that matter)? Confused

There's usually no maxima on basic infantry is there? So whilst you'd be limited (potentially) on armour, ATGs etc at (say) 1950pts to one ATG and nine tanks you could fill your boots with infantry...

Generally it is 9 units per 1000 points i.e. a battalion

Exactly. If you've got a German Army (any period) you could fill up your points before you got as far as tanks. If you decided (for whatever reason) to field a Greek or Norwegian Army, you would possibly run out of Army List before you reached the required number of points . . . Confused

US airborne is an example of this. try doing 1750 points or something similar, very difficult.

If you're making a historical force, ignore the maximums and take what they had. As pete said, they're there for pick up games.
