Can FAO or FAC be used to spot for on table indirect fire models like mortars?

I think it's to reflect that integral weapons like mortars would be on the batallion radio/telephone/runner net reporting to the batallion HQ, while offboard artillery support is directed by the FAO, which has it's own radio communication net directly back to the guns. I'm not aware of any WW2 FAC that would have had anything to do with artillery of any kind, they had their own radio communications back to tactical air HQ and the planes.

Course that is wrong....the MFC's anf FAO's are all on same net (at least in British parctice), and anyone with a radio can call fire, from any asset.

Hence those armies where any command stand can call fire? To my mind that's probably worth extending to any NATO 1 force, at least...

And also the rules allowing on table mortars to use line of sight of any stand in the 'order group' reflect that, too. Esp. handy with Flexible doctrine Smile

Was that true of WWII Ian? Certainly agree with you for modern era. I only have anecdotal stories from an FAO for an AGRA battery in NW Europe, but I was told his radio was netted in to the battery and AGRA CO and it was the battery and/or AGRA CO that had dual nets to the supported infantry and armour.

Derp, I completely missed this was a question for BKC not CWC! Ignore my comment, isabee, unless you also play CWC Grin
