In a game the other day it came up that both of these tanks had R for restricted fire arc in the Notes columns. We figured this must be for the hull mounted flamethrower, however it seems unfair the the main gun cannot be fired outside this arc just because the flamethrower is hull mounted. After comparing against the Churchill Crocodile which doesn't have an R we decided to play the whole tank having restricted.

1) Were we right or should it be R for the flamethrower only?

2) What's the reasoning for this? We guessed it could have been due the turret being cramped due to the flame equipment but couldn't find any solid facts.

The R is for the whole tank.

Whats the reasoning for this since the Churchill Croc isn't R at all?

The turret on an OT-34 is even more cramped and poorly laid out than a regular T-34.

I don't know if the flame equipment affected turret rotation speeds, but if it didn't, then maybe unrestricted but substantially lower ROF would be better.

Just as a "house rule" so possibly in the wrong place - but linked to this. We play that if a turretted vehicle has R it cannot use the turreted weapon for opp fire outside the arc. Hence, it can do it for ordered fire. This came about as a compromise for those in BKC1 days who insisted that Tigers do have turrets!
