Posted on 07 February 2011 at 19:06:42 GMT Hi All, Later this week we will be playing the "Breakthrough Attack" scenario in our ongoing "Italy 1944" campaign. But looking at the victory conditions we get a bit confused. The scenario states: "The attacker will achieve a minor victory if he occupies the third of the table closest to the defender, and a major victory if he exits 25% of his units from the opposite table edge"...snip.. "The defender will gain a minor victory if he denies the attacker the third of the table nearest his baseline and a major victory if he prevents the attacker from exiting 25% of his units from the table." We are unable to make sense of this in the following ways: 1. It would be most unlikely for the attacker to gain a major victory since he would almost certainly occupy the third of the table BEFORE exiting the 25% of his forces. And gaining the minor victory would end the game according to the "End of Battle" section on p36. 2. If the attacker achieves a minor victory (occupying the required 1/3 of the table, but failing to exit 25% of his force) the defender will simultaneously score a major victory! (it is also theoretically possible, according to the victory conditionsfor the attacker to score a major victory and the defender to score a minor one if the attacker does exit 25%, but fails to occupy the required 1/3 of the table). We could of course make up our own victory conditions, but can't help feeling curious. What is actually the intended victory conditons for this scenario? /Ulf O |
