This came up in yesterdays game.

Enemy units are position behind and in contact with a hedgerow so they can fire through. Are we correct that to close assault you need to
1) move your units into contact with the hedgerow taking a minus 1 to your command roll since you're closer than 5cm.
2) make another command check to assault across the hedgerow (taking another minus for the assault?)

Right?

You can assault straight across the hedge as the enemy are right behind it, so just one order.

Ah right. Thanks Pete.

PS would you believe I close assaulted a Char B from the flank, with two combat engineers and half a battalion to back them up and the bugger survived!

I just wanted to check your first action in your original message.
"1) move your units into contact with the hedgerow taking a minus 1 to your command roll since you're closer than 5cm."
There is no minus 1 for being closer than 5cm in BKC2 unless you are close assaulting - which, in your example, you are not at that stage.

My initial question I was working from memory and I don't have my rulebook to hand. We did actually play it right, more later in the game I read again and wondered whether we'd been wrong.

And Char B's are mighty tough. Another game when I was fielding the french, one of my Char B's got hit seven times in the flank and saved five of them. Smile My opponent took it well.
