I've been reading through the following topic:
http://www.blitzkrieg-commander.com/Content/For...

along with pages 12 - 13 and I'm not sure if I've quite got clear how CO's work when it comes to giving second orders. So if...

I have a CO and two HQs, both the HQs manage to fail their first command rolls (I field 1940 French - that happens a lot) So I attempt to give orders to the first formation with my CO. It's the second attempt so I take a -1 plus the usual modifiers. Now the bit I'm not clear on is when does the CO stop?

Am I right in thinking he can give orders to a unit that failed it's first command, then - if he stops before he fails a roll - he can move to another formation and reset back to his starting command value? He is only forced to stop when he fails a command roll.

Or have I taken a good firm grip of the wrong end of the stick?

No, you have it right - the CO can then carry on issuing orders to the "failed" units until you choose to stop or he fails a command roll.

Right? There's a surprise. Can I use this to command bits of a command separately? I ask this because of the French -1 for moving infantry and tank together. Can the CO active the tanks then if he doesn't fail a roll move onto the infantry or does he only get one attempt at a formation?

If he fails an activation, that's it for the turn Wink

While we're on the topic of command units, the group I play against have always taken a view that HQ units have to decide which units they are going to attempt to command before the first command roll. Any units that's left out of that roll (say because they are beyond 20cm) will do nothing that turn. Are we right or can a HQ go back to them provided it stops commanding other units before it fluffs a roll?

Right. We've been playing this game wrong. For the record I blame others. Thanks Pete.

"For the record I blame others."

That's a wise move Grin
