Recce,

This little unit is causing issues Smile Firstly is there a post with the rules clariffied?

If not

When the recce unit does a recce action on the nearest enemy unit so that it can be used to target mortars, do the mortars have to target the unit it can see?

Also, and this may nulify the above, do recce units follow the same rules of LOS for the recce action as other units?

I did find the recce stuff rather confusing last night.

Ok 2nd question.

When ordering units, do you just roll to see if you pass the order then decide what they are doing. OR is it these 2 inf will move and these 3 tanks will fire at that tank? Also if you issue a fire order do the units ordered have to fire at the same unit?

I hope these questions are clear, and there are probably more bud i forgot to take notes last night. Thanks as allways.

Brian.

1. Yes

2. You have to specify the actions, then roll the dice, otherwise how do you know which penalties apply?

Let me clarify point 2, he could just say im odering these 4 units, then if he passes state these are moving this is fireing. But he needs to declare all orders first correct.

And thanks for the quick responce.

You need to say what units are doing prior to rolling, becuase they maybe doing things like entering dense terrain, initiating an assault etc, and these actions incur command penalties.

Pete, does the recce unit need an unbroken LOS to the nearest enemy unit? I've been playing it that the recce does not. For example, the recce and the enemy unit are on opposite sides of a hill. The hill breaks the LOS but the recce unit can still "spot" the enemy unit with a successful recce action roll.

(I've been rationalizing this as the recce unit represents the command of that unit with the rest of the unit spread out in small parties hiding in the terrain radioing or sending runners with information on what they have seen. These small parties are not on the board.)

Have I been playing this wrong?

Also the communication roll. Is it based on teh distance of the recce to the enemy unit or the command unit?

Thanks.

Count Zero99uk, regarding your original second question. Although you need to tell your opponent what you intend to do (eg tanks are gonna move into that wood, infantry are going to open fire, etc) I don't think you need to be ultra-specific, as in "infantry unit A is going to shoot at your mortar, infantry unit B is going to shoot at your MG and infantry unit C is going to shoot at those guys over there."

Let's face it, by the time you've explainded every minute action the chances are you'll fail your next command roll anyway!! (Or is that just me?)

cheers

John
