Following on my my previous rusty rule post.......

If a commander, say 9, makes multiple (say 3) successful command rolls for 6 units in his command of 8 units (therefore down to 6- rating). Decides to stop commanding these 6 units and moves to commanding 2 remaining units, his command rating moves back up to 9, as he hasn't command them yet?

I seem to remember this being the case but I can't find this explicitly mentioned in the rules

For the rules book entry.. Off the top of my head.. Check the very end of the command phase example in the book. Page 17 or whatever it was.

Are you sure, I thought he would continue to suffer the command penalties for ordering the other units.

I think we're back to what a formation is.
It is indeed p.17 - 'The only other thing you are able to do is issue orders to one formation, then issue orders to another formation using the same command unit, as long as the command rolls are successful. When you issue orders to the second formation, you start afresh with the command value, meaning there are no modifiers for each successive order when you issue the first one.'
Looks to me like it goes back to 9
