Hi all,

As the title says, me and a couple of mates are having a quick battle tonight. Were using 20mm figs, so are doubling ranges.

Anyway, are there any things that people commonly get wrong in there first game that i should look out for? Or any tips to make it go smoothly.

We arnt using offboard Arty or Air sup.

Thanks
Brian.

Don't roll blunders. Grin

Keep it fairly simple - don't have loads of different armour types, or field defences (unless you're doing an attack/defence game!). Keep it small too - the game will flow faster.

A game on a 4'x4' table helps with smallish forces (1000 - 1500 pts) as it is easier to keep track of things. A couple of quick games are better than one long one when learning IMHO.

Try playing games where you are not mixing different Arms.
Tanks only perhaps for your first game, then infantry only. Try adding artillery and aircraft much later once you have become familiar with the game mechanics.

Make sure you don't confuse the several effects terrain can have. I found its hard to keep in mind what terrain has what effect on visibility, movement and command rolls on what troops.

And keep in mind: LOS isn't necessarily LOF!

My advice is to make sure that you have a decent amount of terrain on your board. You don't have to have lots of different types of terrain but you'll want to have enough so that both sides don't stand off at long range and fire at each other.
