Smoke Question

The rules for smoke do make sense. However, will the number of units (tubes) supplying smoke affect the results? One tube firing will result in less dense smoke than three tubes firing in concentration. Should this be figured into the rules? I’m thinking duration of smoke on the battlefield, difficulty seeing through it, area covered, etc.

As things are now, it doesn’t matter if one tube or all three tubes of a battery fire, the effect is the same. Thus, I’d take barrage over concentration for the screening effect. Or even three separate calls to place smoke in three different areas. Also, how many assets are used in each case?

Answer - Three tubes all together = one asset
[B] - Three tubes separate = three assets

Just throwing this out for discussion and pondering.

I was trying to get the B in a yellow circle too. It didn't work. Oh well, y'all get the idea.

I haven't used smoke yet but I assume 1 "asset" is meant to be sufficient to give maximum cover; therefore 3 assets might in theory give more smoke it would not add to the concealment.

I used smoke assets last night! My understanding is that it's one asset per artillery model/stand. I used 2 assets in the same turn for 2 separate Sextons, with the aiming spots being 20cm apart. In effect this covered a 40cm run.

johnboy - using 2 assets that way makes sense; but not 2 on the one spot

Rules clearly state that an asset is one turn of fire by one artillery unit.

So a concentration of artillery firing smoke assts is pointless unless there is a rule somewhere I've missed which give either greater effect (not sure what that could be) or longer duration.

Thanks guys, this has cleared up the issue for me. I guess I had smoke in my eyes.

1 asset = 1 tube of artillery

Everything else flow logically from there.
