I assume that any model or stand that is in cover cannot be targetted in the flank, even if the unit firing is in the flank zone. If you look at the diagram in the rule book the flank zones are measured from the middle of a model, making it impossible to trace a LOS to the flank of say a tank behind a hedge.

Does anyone else play it this way?

No, I play it that the unit can be hit in the flank, although it still gets the benefit of cover.

Definitely flank hits in cover.

we play it the way pontic states it. if an infantry unit is behind a bocage, only the front can be hit. only a clear flank wll be counted as a flank shot.

Like Pontic. Indeed, I restrict all shooting to and from a unit in woods and buildings to the frontal arc.

I play it like siggian and Vulkansanex, close country was renown for ambushes.

I only mean that flank shots should be allowed if you have a clear line of sight to the flank. If your infantry anti tank weapons can get within 5cm of a tank in a wood then great. However if you are firing target behind a hedge or on the front of a wood at 40cm range then the only visible part of the target is the front edge, even if the unit that is shooting is in the flank zone.

You'll still be putting shots into that Jagdpanthers side armour though wouldn't you?.. For instance?

This is why I only allow restricted LOS and LOF when units are at the edge of a wood, building or hedge -- recessed to take advantage of cover from the bushes or window/door frames, they would not be visible except from the front and would similarly only have a restricted view out from the cover. I am sitting in my office with the window about 18" in front of me. I might have a 45 degree arc of visibility (to each side) but looking 90 degrees to either side I see the walls of the office!

I would be the first to accept that wargame abstractions -- especially with single stand units that represent several vehicles or men -- do not always translate to simple 'as I see it' tests. But here I think they do. So, I am with pontic: frontal arc only.
