In one of our recent games there was a dug-out within the area under artillery and air attack. We treated the attacks as hitting on a 6 as dug-outs are listed as being hard cover on the hit summary on P.140
We then applied the 4 save as per P.46, ignoring the armour reduction ability of aircraft attack because the dug-out is not a unit or AFV.
Then we rolled suppression rolls needing a 6 for the unsaved hits.
On a second turn the combined and concentrated attacks (the unit in the dig-out was the only unit under the template) knocked out the unit in the dug-out with a reasonable set of rolls which seemed to make the dug-out a bit pointless.
Pete's reply starts 'Yes' which could be taken to mean that units in dug-outs are immune to indirect fire but then how is there a chance of suppressing a unit in a dug-out?
I couldn't find such a refence in the rules, the FAQs or elsewhere in the forum. Am I missing something?
In searching the rules for an answer we noticed that it was not permitted to place a command unit in a dug-out, only infantry or infantry support units. Is this really what was intended as we had placed the CO and a command post in the dug-out thinking it would be the safest place? Interestingly, BKC permits one command or two infantry units to be placed in a dug-out, so we had probably just not noticed the change.
Comments welcomed, as always.
