The way I have read the rules is that as I CA in transport any hits are taken by the troops on board who deploy, is this correct?

What happens if the transport as taken enough hits to destroy it, ie move in trucks take 4 hits rules states given to Inf so truck not destroyed, is this correct?

Hit are taken by the transport. If it's destroyed so are any units inside i beleive.

Thats how we play it anyway.

Lesson...don't put your loaded transports into the enemy's sights!!

PB has it right - any hits caused when assaulting from vehicles go onto the unit assaulting, not the transport. In essence an assault (from a vehicle) is a Deploy and Move order combined.

If you wanted to be nasty, then Luddite's way of doing it will mean you *really* have suppress the unit(s) you want to assault first! Smile

Just had a look and the last paragraph under ‘Assault’ on page 30 reads:

“Troops being carried in or on transport automatically dismount when they contact the enemy. Any hits taken during the assault remain with the troops, not the transport. If the transport unit is suppressed during an assault move, its passengers are also suppressed, but they continue with the assault.”

I’m wondering how, if the hits are on the carried troops, a transport unit would become suppressed during an assault move?

Two things going on here, I think:

If the transported unit is attacked with Opportunity fire prior to contact (within 5 of the defender), it is the target.

If it then closes with the target and debusses its assaulting infantry they take the hits from the defensive fire.

Nasty eh?

Hmmm...Blackeye It would seem we're doing it wrong then.

This came up in our last battle with some German Engineers wanting to assault from the Hanomags...we have them dismount on one order and assault on the second order...as it happens they were wiped out, but we obviously need to revisit this rule...

Still learning!! Grin

Sorry, but time ago I have had this problem
with troop that CA on trasport.
I don't understand "..we have them dismount on one order
and assault on the second order.."
I think that for CA at the hanomag will be issued "one" order and inf. dismount when in contact with the enemy
and Halftrack will be in support.

This one is very important issue and probably needs a firm ruling. Because it says when the transport contact the enemy the troops deploy this means the transport is physically contacting the enemy and deploy allows me to be placed within 5cm of my transport. So i could put them on a flank!!!

The way I would see it is the transports move to the assault at 5cm from enemy they stop and the troops deploy in the assault. This still as some kinks in it for if my transport is say motorcycles with a 1/40MG I now get a bonus +1 for my assault due to support.

If I was in a truck (for real) and being driven towards the enemy in an assault ... I would get out ASAP and conclude on foot. I was on Salisbury Plain during a simulated live fire exercise with laser technology being used to indicate direct fire hits and with a small group of chaps managed to stall a company assault who came at us with soft skinned vehicles. We only had rifles!

Thus, the BKCII rules work well in that troops who get hit in vehicles are screwed!
