“Formations” on page 42 describes how recce units are not assigned to formations during deployment. This isn't a problem during a static deployment.

However in a mobile deployment, and given the absence of the recce deployment rule from CWC, I can't see the mechanism for getting recce units on table. Sad

You assign them to a formation for deployment.

Mmmm…that strikes me as being diametrically at odds with page 42 Pete but, hey, it gets round the problem. Confused

Well, they need to be issued orders and a command unit is the only one that can do that!

Well, that’s not the only way through. One can either reword the second paragraph (Formations) under ‘Deployment’ (page 42) to omit recce units from those not made part of a formation, or one can introduce the Recce Deployment rule from CWC – I think the latter’s a better fix. Huh?

We always place the recce stands on using the rules for recce deployment in CWC, regardless of what the rest of the force is doing. Works OK for us.
