I am a little confused by the command process, I am sure you guys can set me straight.

On page 12, under Command Modifiers it says "-1 Each successive order to the same unit or formation of units". Does this mean that an HQ can give a unit 3 successful orders, then begin issuing orders to another unit with its full CV?

For example CV 9 HQ orders a formation to move, move, shoot and passes all 3 command rolls with the last roll being at -3, meaning he had to roll 6 or less. Then the HQ decides to order another formation to move up in support. Does the HQ have a CV of 9 or 5 to do this?

Speaking of formations, the rules (pg. 4) say they are based around their historical historical counter parts. I play at the lower level, so we are talking about companies. Should there be an HQ for each company I field and can any HQ order any unit or formation or they specific to their company? I understand the CO can order any unit.

When an CO/HQ stops ordering one group of units, and moves to another group, the CV is reset, so in your example it would go back to 9. However, if the command unit fails a roll, it can't order any other units.

For 1:1 level, the HQs would be company ones. Whether or not they can order other formations will depend on their tactical doctrine, which is in the lists. eg US are Normal, so can do so, but at -1; Germans are Flexible, so no penalty; Russians are Rigid, so can't.

Hope that helps! Smile

It does help, thanks a lot. I somehow missed the tactical doctrine section, I need to re-read that. It sounds very cool! The more I immerse myself in these rules, the more confident I am that they are exactly what I have been looking for! I love them!

She's already jealous, I have been carrying the rule book around the house for several days non-stop. I'm trying not to gush too much about BKCII, but I own a lot of rules and this is the first set that I have not found anything that turns me off or I think that I will need to use house rules or make changes to. My compliments to the chef.

If you're playing where a stand = squad, would you have a HQ per platoon?

Or, would you just have the one CO.

What if you then added a tank platoon - would they have an HQ tank?

I have a command question.

The penalty for command range does not apply to units moving entirely on road. Would that also apply to a unit which is shooting (instead of moving) but on a road?
