Hi,

In the description about Initiative [pg 10] it says that it is carried out by the active player. Further down the page, under 'Counter-Fire' it says that this can be done by units under assault.

I've got the feeling I'm being a bit thick here, but how can a unit under assault, & therefore belonging to the inactive player, carry out counter-fire [which part of the active player's Initiative Phase]?

Not sure I explained that very well - but hope you all get the gist of it.

Cheers

Basically they (the inactive troops) are reacting to being assaulted, rather than just letting the enemy come piling in. In game terms it means that it's a really good idea to suppress units you intend to assault, as it makes life a lot easier...

Hope that helps! Smile

Thanks Kiwidave.

However the way the rules read to me is that Counter-Fire is a part of the Initiative Phase which is only carried out by the active players units.

Those being assaulted can't counter-fire because they are, as you say, inactive.

Cheers.

The opposing (non-active) player can do a bit of "action" in the active player's phase.

In the active player's initiative/combat phase, the non-active player can fire at assaulting troops. This is no different to standing and firing at charging troops in other game systems.

In the active players command phase, the non-active player may also choose to do a bit of opportunity fire.

Hope this helps.

OK - I think I get it now. However I think the rules could make it a bit clearer, i.e. that the non-active player can perform one action in the active players Initiative Phase.

Thanks to all for the help.

Cheers
