I was in a very fortunate position today in a close assault, i found an isolated unit, rolled a double one that allowed me to position three units to assault, with one in support, with the first order and to launch the assault proper with the second order. One unit attacked the front and two units attacked one on each flank with the 4th unit supporting the frontal attack. My question is do the two flanking units get their full attacks,ie 4 plus modifiers or do they count towards the support along with the front support unit?

Hi There,

If I've read my rules properly You would get plus 1 die for each unit in support of the close assault and your opponent would get -1 die for fighting to each flank or rear.

So in your example you would have:-
The base number of attacks for the unit frontally attacking
+2 dice for the flanking units
+1 die for the supporting unit

And your opponent would have:-
His base number of attacks
+ Any support
-2 dice for being flanked( 1 for each of your units)

Hope that helps

Firstly, well done on getting your troops in this situation!

If you're in base contact, you get your full quota (see 3ed sentence, 1st paragraph, page 31), so in your example you would get 16 dice (3x(4+1) +1), against the defender's 2, assuming no-one is suppressed.

Sorry to dredge up an old post, but we had this same situation last night and both these answers seem to contradict each other.

So, when multiple units close assault, do they all get number of dice indicated by the CA column, plus modifiers

or

The unit close assaulting to the front gets the number of dice in the CA column plus modifiers and other units involved add 1 dice each to the overall number

Hopefully that makes sense Smile

Each unit in base contact gets its CA value, and +1 for assaulting. Any supporting units (i.e. not in base contact, and within 10cm (? from memory) and LOS to the assaulting unit add +1 to the overall total.

The defender gets thier base CA, less any modifiers for flank/rear/supressed, and +1 for any supporting units as above.

Hope that helps.

Yes agree with Kiwidave and support is within 10 cm to add additional +1 dice to overall CA. If you have more than one unit in CA you decide which units are supporting which assault.

The only way to get multiple units into assault is to do what you've described - one in the front, one in the flank etc. Each in contact counts their full CA value, whilst any supporting grant the +1 dice only.

The ex. of Scakwill:

3 units assault (front and left and right flank) with one unit
in support: 4 + 4 + 4 then 3 (each unit assaulting)then 1 (support unit) total for assaulting unit 16.

1 unit under assault without support and no suppressed
4 then -2 (unit to the flank or rear) total 2

The CA situations are very well described in CWC rulebook examples.

Many thanks for the responses.

I've since read my copy of CWC and that does seem a lot clearer than the BKC2 rulebook.
