From tactical doctrine pdf: "In addition, you gain +1 to the command value of the CO or HQ when all unsuppressed units in a formation carry out the same action."

The rule book uses term formation this way "A Formation is a convenient term to use for all the units you will issue orders to at any one time during a turn."

But you can't issue orders to surpressed units, I recon. So does "formation" in doctrine pdf mean something else than rule book quote above? For example a formation in the same sense as in the fixed formation optional rule.

Or does the tactical doctrine pdf try to say that if all units to whom you have chosen to issue orders this time make the same action you'll get the +1?

Cheers,

iA //Clarification on the recce&hidden unit question I posted yesterday would be nice too.. For our club's game later today, you know Smile[|)

We use tactical doctrine and fixed ormations in all our games, and your question has come up before.

We apply the +1 when ALL units in the entire FIXED formation (not simply those being sent an order) aim to do the "same thing". BUT, within this we exclude suppressed, AA & recce units. I think that in a previous thread Pete did refer to entire formations - otherwise there's not much point in the rule!

Hence, it is generally best to keep formations down to the same troop type - i.e. all tank or all infantry, since infantry cannot do the same thing if the tanks are firng at long range targets! How very "Russian"! Wink

That is the general idea! Excluding suppressed, AA and recce units is OK. The main thing to remember about the rule is that it is restrictive, otherwise I would have just increased the CV of the Russians by 1 Wink

Cheers and thank you guys for a quick response. Sounds reasonable. Very restrictive it shall beGrin

If you don't care to tackle the rambling bonus Q in my other post... clarifying this would help a lot Confused Our first experiment with the recce and hidden deployment.

"Bottom of page 42 speaks when dummies are revealed and one of the instances is "..or when it is located by recce".

Does this refer that recce uses the dummy unit to contact a command? Does the recce has to be succesfull in that contact for the dummy to be revealed?

Or does it refer to something else?"

As we play it, the recce unit needs to make its roll. If succesfull against a Dummy unit, that unit is revealed as a Dummy and removed from play. If not, that unit remains where it is.
