Had a game the other night, much fun despite us all being rusty re the rules. One question that I could not get an answer to from reading the rule book or searching the forum was regarding recce which we used for the first time, so, have I got this right, recce is only active in the initiative phase. recce does not require LOS to either the enemy unit or the command unit.recce can only communicate to the NEAREST command unit and can only "spot" the NEAREST enemy unit. the distance from the nearest enemy unit can be up to sixty cm. away (1xD6)but there is no distance limit from recce to command unit. the command unit would start its command phase on -1. Thanks, Peter.

Sounds about right, but all that is in the book.

Hi Peter, good to see you're managing to get a game. I've got a fair few people playing at the Peterborough Club now if you ever feel like coming over for a game.

Can't help with the Recce rule though I'm afraid, I've also never used it but am planning on doing so later this month.

Thanks Pete, in the RECCE (optional rule) section on P8. "Line of sight between the two is not required" that is the recce unit and the command unit, it does not say whether LOS from the recce unit to the enemy unit is required or not required, hence my question. (thanks Gavin)Smile

I would like clarifcation on this. As the the CWC rules also add "the recce options above just allow you to target the enemy unit within LOS of the recce unit" when refering to issuing orders to mortars which would imply LOS is required from the Recce unit to the nearest enemy unit?

Adrian - the Recce unit does not require LOS to it's target unit.

All the details are in the BKC FAQ in the Downloads section of this site. It's covered in Question 20.

Hope this helps.

cheers

John

PS Thanks for the game...

I will have my "wevengee"!!

This is what I like about the recce rule - no LOS from recce unit to enemy - and it makes perfect sense: Besides telling the nearest HQ where the enemy is, he's also telling him where he ISN'T!

The recce unit is simply conveying information, allowing the HQ to (hopefully) make more decisions.

then some further thinking:

if recce does not need line of sight to the enemy unit to communicate with the nearest command unit, has the target unit been spot and can it be targetted by artillery if the nearest command unit is a FAO?

Thanks, nice to have it in black & white, but not sure I am happy with it. And yes, Bjorn it does!
