Roving field courst were quite happy to string up anyone unable to account for their whereabouts... so how about making the 'fatal' fallback distance for German units 5, rather than 10?

You can step back, but not too far! Smile

To each his own, ofcourse, but I'd think that German field courts (even roving ones) wouldn't be seen within miles of the front line. So best left off-table, or somewhere in the back of a very big one.
All this 'lurkers and shirkers' stuff did happen, but it's mainly the units/individuals behind the front-line that are in danger. So, while in a retreat some soldier(s) could be split off from the unit and shot on account of desertion, I don't think this would merit removing the entire unit.
If anything, this would make German units very reluctant to split up and head for the rear, which is what exceeding the fallback distance represents. So maybe you should only remove them when they fall back 15cm?

TinnedStew, I think that what Olden was getting at was rather than have the German units knocked out when they fall back more than 5cm, as suggested by yourself, he was suggesting that they wouldn't be knocked out by fallback until they fell back more than 15cm rather than the usual 10cm.

Yup. The reasoning being that they would think twice before splitting up and running away. Because if they do there is always a chance that they get executed by the field courts.
