I've got dozens of the old style land raiders for my not a space marine army but I hate them. I checked out how much GW were charging for the new style Land Raiders but at £20 for 4 they can jog on.
Any suggestions for good proxy models preferably for the LR Crusader type ( also for drop pods as I am doing a Black Templar force)

6mm?

If so, what do the LR Crusaders look like?

Basically the same as a normal LR, but with 6 linked heavy bolters in each sponson instead of twin-linked lascannon.

Corrrr they have changed a bit..

I am looking at Steel Crown as they sell sponsons and all sorts as single items.
Their site seems to be acting up though..

I quite like the old Land Raiders, I've got some of the ones from the Space Marines box set and they paint up well. I have to admit I got them for free from an old friend so that might colour my judgement.

Drop pods from Exodus wars or GZG, or paper ones from Germy

Check out this TMP thread

How do the Exodus APCs scale with EPic figures?

Looking at these in particular-

for that clunky 'Gothic' sort of look (if that's what you want?) you could always try some Brigade Models or Dystopian Wars kit!

Kingdom Of Britannia MKII Class Medium Tank
Might fit the bill.
Looked at them at Colours and thought of them as a nice variant on the landraider.
Cromwell Class Bombard could fit in as a nice chunky bit of artillery.

All the LR Crusaders that i have seen are scratch built, no one makes the Hurricane Bolter sponson AFAIK. Many of the memebers of the TacComm forums use the Exodus Wars Drop pods for marine Drop pods (particularly as proxies for Dreadclaws.)

Also, you might find some of the new LRs on ebay for a half ways decent price.

The Kingdom Of Britannia MKII Class Medium Tanks would fit the bill. Are they in the area of 6mm scale? If so I think I might pick some up, they will make great Chaos Land Raiders.

Does anyone make WW1 tanks in 6mm? I think they look like land raiders.

unfortunately epic, exodus, Dark Realm all actually scale a lot bigger than most 6mm historical lines, so WW1 tanks dont tend to work out - they look like LR's baby cousins on the table :(

A lot of the WW1 Irregular Miniatures 6mm stuff might do OK.

Irregular Miniatures tend to be on the larger side & have a very good 'grotty/used' look to them.
They do a 6mm Mark IV tank "male" (code: GWB21) and a Whippet light tank (code: GWB22), also some of the French (Schneider & Chamond tanks) & German later WW1 tanks - but sadly there are few pictures on their website & I've not seen the models. Irregular caste in a very soft metal so it's easy to drill, cut & even sculpt - good for conversions.

But the massive Railway Gun, Traction Engins & Howitzers (photos on the site) are very interesting indeed, and I can thoroughly recommend GWV23: `Ground Level' trench section occupied by 10 men, head and shoulders only, firing over trench edge. Early British or Russian (in caps) - they also do a similar German, French & Austrian varient.

Ian Kay (Irregular owner) is a nice chap & responds very quickly to emails - so you might get him to take a picture of his Mark I 'male' tank ... but he's also very fast on delivery, usually next day in the UK, so worth trying a few samples.
