Being a lover of all things shiney.. especially dropships, I have a question. I know things like APC's IFVs Gunships and the like can only carry infantry, which makes sense of course. Larger dropships however, can they carry vehicles and of what type? I'm thinking say of the X31 Manta, it can fit 4 IFV's or Tanks so is there a rule?

It would seem to me that a vehicle takes up 4 spaces, a large or heavy vehicle might take up 6 or 8

I'm tempted to build a GZG force around super box-cars and T.I.T.s (giggle) but don't want to be simply an infantry force

any guidance?

There is a section in the rules that describes how many spaces each vehicle type takes up. Can't recall where though at the moment.

Was there ever a ruling on "Russian Doll" loading - ie infantry inside IFVs?

I think it would make sense that dropships would carry full IFVs .. I'm thinking of things like the Aliens dropship, or the Tau Manta

As Stenicplus states - it usually says in the lists how many passenger spaces a dropship has and then how many spaces certain elements take up (e.g. Infantry stand 1 space, Bikes & Buggies & small Walkers 2 spaces, Medium Profile Armour 3 spaces etc).

I don't think there was a 'ruling' about IFVs / APCs / Transports holding their compliment of passengers within them in the dropship - but it seems sensible to assume that they would as it's only a short drop from orbit to the surface. The Aliens' film being a good example - with the IFV held inside the attack drop/gunship and the section of Colonial Marines secured inside the IFV.

Bring em on is what I say ... all the more to die to AA on the way down Wink

That sounds fine to me! Reminds me of a game I once played where my opponent had a dropship full of Orcs and he was pondering bringing them on to do a ground attack mission. With my encouragement, he did just that and by a fluke I shot it down and he lost the dropship and full load of Orcs! Grin

The Krays just got even better.

Pete, where do I send your cheque to?Grin

Found the bit on spaces, page 51 where it details Arms of Service, at the bottom in Transport.

Also, re last week's game, I knew the ruile but could not recall where I'd seen it. The Artillery section on the same page confirms a towed gun is considered as an LV and LVs take two spaces each, hence a transport requires 2 spaces to take a lowed gun... such as in the Guild Legio army. I assume it's to represent crew, ammo and spare parts etc...
