At Little Bughorn there was the potential for both the Krays and the SST Bugs to have their gunship on the table at the same time

This raised the question of Gunships vs Gunships

When airborne gunships shoot at each other can they

a) only use anti-aircraft weapons
b) use whatever they are armed with ie the SST Dragonflies have flamethrowers

Can airborne gunships assault other airborne gunships?

No way flying units can assault each other! They would just crash and burn.

I'd say they could only use AA attacks...

Kray Gunships don't even have an assault value... unless you count the 6 shields that make nice bug zappers...

FWC has rules for adaptive camo, stealth, teleportation, tunnelling, walkers, mind-wiping, ogrethullu, orbital bombardments, hyper-velocity and cryogenenic weapons to name but a few but it can't handle this?

The Avatar footage isn't really gunship v gunship is it. More like gunship v flying assault troops...

I see that I'll have to answer the original question myself

(I've just bought the pdf version of FWC - searching and copy & paste functions are brilliant)

Shooting

Page 33, last paragraph, 1st sentence

Gunships are subject to anti-aircraft fire and smart missile fire whilst on the table

Assaults

Page 37, 3rd Paragraph, 1st bullet point

recce, sniper, gunships and transport units may not initiate close assault but will defend when under assault

Ahem... Re shooting, that concurs with what we discussed in the game, only if gunship weapons are classes as AA capable can they shoot other aircraft.

Note also bullet point in the FAQ re what can shoot on table aircraft that are 'in the air'.

Dave, I think some on-table aircraft that are winged creatures are treated as gunships for the purposes of the rules if I recall correctly. Need to check the lists though.

Shedman has quoted the right sections of the rules.

But if gunships land, they are subject to normal direct and indirect fire and may be assaulted.

I think on-table winged creatures rated as gunships are best treated as Grav troops.

Some gunships have Grav movement (e.g. Andrayadan, Khazari) so if they are used on-table they count as ground troops for fire and assault. Cool
