We were discussing how to play these interesting units at the club last night. They are infantry with 30A movement, shown in the battlegroups list for Kraytonians, with 2/30 attacks, 6-dice assault and do not have S1 stabalised weapons.

Q1) If they hover when airbourne, can they shoot ?

Q2) are other general movement options as per Gunships (i.e. half distance for a move involving a take-off or landing)?

Q3) is it best to deal with assault as per jump troops - land 5cm away and walk into contact?

I think it should be Yes to all, but others disagree, so a ruling would be appreciated.

Don't think they can hover! wings don't look right, circling maybe but not hover. That would allow the shoot.
Why would they need to land? they don't carry anything so no requirement.
Assualt probably best to treat as Grav troops as the beast is part of the assualt. If you land then the beast is at a disadvantage and the dice shouldn't be as high

It is an 'infantry' Arm and only the moevement is Air, as opposed to being considered an aircraft.

1. Let's not forget move and halt are only game mechanisms, I've no issue with winged creatures being considered as not moving for game efects to enable sh.ooting. consider it as moving slwoly or circling as Paul suggests.

2. Seems reasonable, flying creatures to tend to stop suddenly as they land.

3. I'm with Paul, grav!

If treated as aircraft there are issues about can only AA target it etc...

You'd be on dodgy ground taking an army of them and then telling your opponent he cannot hit you because they are all aircraft.

I blame those long evenings up in Ynys Môn staring at the army lists in FWC

Q1. I think they can hover if they roll below the Thermal value for the terrain they are trying to hover over.

Q2. Yes

Q3. I can't see them waddling into contact - grav for me as well

As for what can shoot at them - I have yet to see a SAM battery at a Pheasant shoot

Who also has some but going to use them for a Nomad/Avatar style army instead of the Kray Twins stuff

Yes, and you cleared out AB's stock just when I wanted them... grumble, moan, grumble...

There will be a reckoning Evil

SAM batteries at Shoots? Well it is *Future* War Commander so of course you've yet to see it. Who know what mass dispersal effect SAMs may have in the future? I seem to recall recent discussion regarding the SAMs on tower blocks talking about them creating a spread just prior impact so they cover a large area to ensure the target is hit. Sounds like something that might make a mess of a winged creature large enough to carry a person (lizard even).

Thanks to all for comments.

On reflection, I think it is simplest to treat them as GRAV troops, with no stabilisation.

[They fly low and slow compared to normal AIR vehicles, but have an advantage if they get into close assault].

Cool
