Not sure if I have dreamt this up - did I see somewhere that FWC can be used more or less 'as is' for ACW and Colonial periods using lists in the book for Low Tech armies - if I am not dreaming then does this work?

The was interest in a Colonial version but nothing's come of it.

Thank you stenicplus for at least re-assuring me that I am not going totally bonkers - I knew I had seen something somewhere - and shedman's blog must be it.

He does not appear to have come to a conclusion as to which was best out of the three rulesets but his RJW re-fight seems to have been satisfactory using FWC........

It was just a curiosity post about the ruleset and I'm sure they are best used as intendedSmile

Well I might have used a z word - if I knew one!

Pete - you do make some cryptic and enigmatic posts - at least from a 62 year old's perspective - but I would have it no other way - I really like this forum and respect your work.

Robjohn - you are not bonkers - FWC can, and should be, used for as many periods as possible. It is generic enough to handle most situations as the Berkeley club can attest to.

It certainly works for the RJW as they provided me with the most realistic outcome of the rule-sets used. FWC also handles indirect artillery in a simple pain-free style which is a big-plus for me.

I still have a couple of rule-sets to try out hence the lack of conclusion but the clever money is on FWC.

Italy 1859 is my current FWC project although this will be a variant and not straight out of the box

I'm not sure why Pete doesn't encourage pushing the FWC envelope but it's his set of rules so that's fair enough.

And I look drop-dead gorgeous in Pink Blush

To be honest, I don't know much about pre-20th century warfare.

Shedman - thank you!

If you have any work on using FWC for ACW I would love to see it! - guess I will have to put FWC on the list for birthday later this yearSmile

Do you have any photos of your pink ensemble?

I would say that its not just FWC that is adaptable, its the basic model that all three of the Commander Series rules use. Very flexible, more simulation than gamey, a very clean and easy to adapt system. Brave Zulu to Pete for developing it the way he has. Wink

Thanks for feedback chaps - I have since discovered Rick Priestley's Warmaster site - which in turn leads to the Warmaster Historical site:

http://games.dir.groups.yahoo.com/group/histori...

http://www.ricks-warmaster.com/index.html

lo and behold -

Wars of the Roses Commander
Thirty Years War Commander
ECW Commander
Seven Years War Commander
Napoleonic Commander
American Civil War Commander
Franco-Prussian War Commander

All variants which can be tacked onto Warmaster core rules -again a free download linked on Rick's site.

As Nik has said somewhere - the core rules mean you CAN play any period (in addition to BKC, CWC and FWC) without learning new concepts and playing methods for each period.

Wargames Nirvana - knew I wasn't bonkers - just a barking mad wargamerGrin

I've always wanted to do ACW...

Maybe now would be a good option to do this.

by using the ACW rules could I still solo game? I know FWC, and BKC II can...

Sure that solo is a possibility - the point is that they are from the stable of core rules so it it works in BKC...

if I was to try and make up a ACW army list where do I start?

It would seem to be a cheap way of making two armies.

As you would only need characters and alot of troops. No vehicles [besides cavalry]

just not sure how many units I would need. I'd love to do a battle of Gettysburg that would be cool.

I'd want to do it in 6mm not 10 or 15mm.

How do I base the 1000, 1500, 2000 infantry stands?

Hi LGW - it tells you in the ACW rules

40 x 20 per stand - 3 stands per unit for 1000 or 1500 and 4 stands per unit for larger - two ranks of figures per stand.

The rules are Warmaster - original free version - linked from Rick Priestley site plus the variant from Yahoo group.

enjoy - I am getting into it. Pendraken are about to release new figures for ACW in 10mm

I think it's great that Pete's FWC rules have been dragged back into the 19th Century. The more linear warfare with volleys and cavalry charges the better quite frankly. This tank and machine gun lark will never catch on IMHO.
