Hi

Thinking of using my McGregor force tomorrow night. The Mark I tank (Leviathan in the old language) is a transport unit.

1) Can it carry Command units
2) Is there a command penalty for operating from inside?

Thanks

Paul,

Can't aee anything specific in the rules other than command units can be carried in gunships or dropships, this is for air assaults. They take one space and can only order the unit they are transported in, and there can only be 1 transported in said transport; FAOs & FACs do not count to the 1.

Most commanders otherwise probably don't go around in transport because of the risk of the transport brewing up and them becoming suppressed or knocked out.

To date as I recall we've played they can but treat it as per being carried in a gunship or dropship, so one commander only, moves with transporting unit, issues orders to transporting unit or other unitss in the transport - such as 'Move! Move! Move!' Wink

Hi

Was just asking whether it could still give orders to the rest of his command.

See you at the usual place at usual time.
Thanks

There isn't any point putting a command unit in a transport, other than a dropship and that's only to get the command unit on the table.

Pete,

There area couple of occasions one might want to.

In Paul's case I suspect it's to protect the commander from overun as all his other troops will be in the tank too. In a low point game it makes the Clan quite formidable as the tank soaks up damage.

Teleporting transports (like the Gara Field Teleporter) might also want to transport a commander so he can go with the teleporters.

Also, Shield Dome gernerators that have transport capability... would want sir left behind to sliced in half as the shield passes over him Grin

As a satisfied customer of the Squat Mark 1 Tank I would love to have a command unit with the vehicle especially when taking on bugs

However it would change the way the game plays

My suggestion would be to play it as a dedicated command unit for the vehicle that can not give orders to other troops other than to deploy them, has no AA capability, takes up one space and has the same cost as a HQ

Alternatively treat it as a standard HQ but it can not issue orders until deployed

No, coz the Land Train is a bit like a TARDIS or a Bag of Holding - infinity bigger on the inside, so the pulse would miss eveything...Gimme

Also, I vaguelly recall the lead car was considered to be the HQ of the train, so intergral to it. Maybe that was for armoured trains in BKC, but the same approach would work.

The Land Train and the Mark I tank are different

The Mark I is just a (very) big tank

The Land Train has various components ie engine, artillery , transport etc and the various bits can get destroyed independantly - rather like the 12:40 from Swindon to Bath Spa

So the pulse weapon would work against the Mark I but it would would against the Land Train

Unless of course Osprey bring out the long awaited Transport Unit Seating Plans of the Galaxy

Ah - my bad. The Mark I could be a self-order type thing maybe?

Allowing armour to carry one commander as per a dropship opens up the possibility of massive walkers: Marine Corps-'Hellfire' or Red Guard-'Red Vengence' acting as Massive unit transports from which their infantry battalion deploys.

If you use the same limitation - Commander may only order the vehicle or troops inside then I think it would play OK as a house-rule.

It would save the commander from being an overrun target for every tunnelling bug on the planet.Stunned
