How do you show BUAs in your games
a) define the area by putting down a template. Place houses loosely on the top. Measure in straight lines, move houses out of way, or...
b) build city blocks, market squares on square bases and put them together to create a town, have to manouvre around buildings.

Option B) Buildings are based and all BUAs are passable to infantry, vehicles can only enter bases where there is sufficient clear space for the vehicle base to fit such as parking areas at office and factory buildings.

Panit ground plans, and add buildings on top. Idea is you remove em, but at Gauntlet we left em on, with a very real cluttering effect.

if it can be usefull I have tried to considerer BUA like high area terrain where tank and A/T guns can enter but not received benefit of cover from enemy fire as if they move along the streets of the town (open terrain),then I consider ruined BUA at the same way with the exception that in this type of terrain Armour,A/T and vehicles can be hitting with 5-6;besides Armours, A/T ecc. cannot camouflage or dug-in in BUA; in ruined areas they can.

Option A. I don't see much point in creating beautiful, railway modelling- style terrain then having to balance units on rooftops during the actual game.

Just my personal opinion. Good looking terrain is important but it must serve the purposes of the game.

Thanks all, plenty to think about.
I think I'll have to try both. I might base a few buildings on 75mm squares and then combine bases together for larger towns, which lets me still use the template idea as well.

Wink Option B with removable roofs (only to discover your models don't fit into the buildings)

For us option B

To avoid putting figures on top of roofs etc.. we have made some counters to lay next to the building. So you can see wat and who is in it (inf - mg - recce inf - engineers)We also made some small flags that we can put on top of the building. We drilled 2 small holes in them. We have white for normal wounds en red ones for supresed units in the building en black flags for the building itself.

Actually, too little sleep, I meant B (thinking the question refered to if you glue them down or not).

Mine look like this :

This one defines it for me :
http://www.ukstrike.co.uk/photo_gallery/myalbum...

But i work on it at squad level - 1 base of 4 equal 4 men

then using this format i can also go to higher units also and run battalion games or higher

but then i also have a building set that is a 6x3 base with 1 building on that with 3 others will equal a town.

So really I suppose having 2 setups helps a lot Smile

Thanks for the pics guys
I don't think I will pit my modelling/painting skills against you!
I think I need to mention, in future, that I am using 6mm figures

Ive been struggling with this one for ages.

For BKC/CWC I find that indiividual buildings work ok, although sometimes some bluetac to stcik a stand to a sloped roof works well.

For other Warmaster variants with massed units, I am moving over to using a bit of grey/brown felt to a set size (about 15cm squared), with a few buildings placed on top. That way the buildings can be moved to make way for units without having to heap them around the model buildings, losing any sense of what formation they are in.

I use option A—pieces of felt or foam spraypainted with an asphalt/grass texture to define the BUA, then I place paper buildings on top of that. It's very easy to move the buildings around to make sure you can get all your models in the BUA, plus it's incredibly cheap. I can make a table's worth of BUAs for pocket change.
